The Aeronautical and Space Research Center was established according to the Applied Research and Development Organization’s Board of Directors Resolution No. 289 of 2013. It is a leading regional institution in the field of aviation and space that contributes to the development of the defense capabilities of the Libyan state.

The center carries out its main functions through four research departments, namely:

  • Design and Technology Department.
  • Engine Department.
  • Experiments and Ground tests Department.
  • Space Research Department.
  • Carrying out research and scientific studies in the field of aviation and space.
  • Conducting applied research to design models of unmanned aircraft systems.
  • Preparing designs for flying objects with their various components.
  • Participation in the development of unmanned aircraft systems operating in the Libyan army.
  • Adopting basic and applied research projects in areas related to aviation and space technology that serve the technology transfer in Libya through the implementation of specialized programs and applied research.
  • Conducting studies and research in the field of satellites and their applications.
  • Contribute to solving technical problems related to the field of aviation and space sciences.
  • Participate in activating cooperation between the Applied Research and Development Organization and other parties through the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing applications in the field of aviation technology and satellites.
  • Providing technical and scientific consultancy to the Libyan army in areas that fall within the competence of the center.
  • A project to design and produce models for fixed-wing unmanned aircraft.
  • A project to design and produce models for unmanned aircraft from multi-rotor Drones.
